Richard Carlson , SH&E Senior Manager

Richard Carlson has had more than 20 years of management, marketing, finance, multi-unit management and project management experience in the public and private sectors and was responsible for eight years for the planning, launch, managing, and ongoing development of the Borders Airport store program.  His airport retail background included retail involvement in more than a dozen US airport concession programs  airports including Ronald Regan Washington National Airport, Washington Dulles International Airport, Boston Logan International Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport, Pittsburgh International Airport, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, Orlando International Airport, McCarran Las Vegas International Airport, and several others.

Norman Y. Mineta San José Int’l Airport Concession planning assistance for the new North Concourse and Terminal B.  Efforts included sizing and layout development along with concept trends research.  Selection and evaluation assistance including the development a new evaluation and assessment tools.

Palm Springs Int’l Airport Concession planning assistance including sizing and layout development along with concept trends research.  Developed tailored operating performance standards package for the concession program.

Background
Mr. Carlson joined The Center For Airport Management in 2005 as a Senior Consultant, in CAM’s Chicago office.  Key activities since joining CAM have centered on concession planning, concession logistics, advertising planning, project planning, non-airline revenue analysis, organizational  marketing, new business development and concession trends research.  

Prior to joining CAM, Mr. Carlson was a Marketing Director at Borders Group, Inc. During his twenty-year career at Borders, Mr. Carlson served as Senior Project Manager on a variety of financial, operational, training and marketing initiatives, including the launch and ongoing operations of the Airport Store Program.  Prior to joining Borders, Mr. Carlson worked for the Nevada State Legislature, within the Legislative Council Bureau.
