SH&E Adds José L. Muñoz to New York Office, Grows Safety Practice

Leading aviation consultants SH&E have added José L. Muñoz as a Director in the firm’s New York office, where he will work in the firm’s growing Safety, Security and Operations practice.

Mr. Muñoz has over twenty years engineering, manufacturing, testing, regulatory, quality assurance and project management experience in the aerospace field. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and a specialization in Operations Management Science from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.

Prior to joining SH&E, Mr. Muñoz was a Vice President of Bureau Veritas North America, Regional Manager of its Aeronautics/Space Division, and was responsible for promoting, managing and overlooking quality, technical, regulatory assistance and aviation safety projects to a number of clients which include Civil Aviation Administrations, airlines, aerospace manufacturers, banks, leasing companies, maintenance facilities and distributors.

Mr. Muñoz began his professional career working as a flight test engineer in the Tomahawk Cruise Missile Program. He then transitioned to the commercial aircraft manufacturing and servicing field, where he started working in the quality assurance and project management environment. Mr. Muñoz managed and participated in various aviation safety, regulatory, quality and special process audits throughout Europe, the Middle East, Asia and North & South America. During that period, he dealt with several OEM’s, airlines and Civil Aviation Administrations resolving various aviation safety, regulatory, quality assurance and certification issues.

Mr. Muñoz has participated in and led several technical assistance projects involving Civil Aviation Authorities, air carriers, production approval holders, maintenance facilities/repair stations and aeronautical parts distributors. He also holds a Designated Airworthiness Inspector Certificate from the Bermuda Department of Civil Aviation.

His experience has proven to be an asset during the preparation, performance and reporting of numerous technical inspections and assessments against Federal Aviation Regulations, Joint Aviation Regulations/European Aviation Safety Agency, ICAO, recognized industry standards, the International Standards ISO 9000 & AS9100, several OEM quality and special process requirements.

Mr. Muñoz is an active member of the American Society of Quality and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He is fluent in Spanish, Italian and French.
