SH&E’S MEDLAND STATES MANY AIRCRAFT OVER VALUED
Findings Presented at Recent Morgan Stanley EETC and Airline Debt Conference

Clive Medland, SH&E Senior Vice President and head of the firm’s Asset Management Practice, stated at Morgan Stanley EETC and Airline Debt Conference in New York recently that the economic life expectations used for financings for both narrow and wide body aircraft have most likely been too optimistic, even in less distressed economic environments.

“We should be thinking of an economic life of no more than 25 years for all wide-body passenger aircraft.” Medland went on to explain that it appears that most aircraft experience competitive pressure from aircraft more technologically advanced within ten years of entering service.

Mr. Medland, who joined SH&E in 1989, is responsible for coordinating SH&E’s worldwide Asset Management Practice. Activities included in this practice are the recovery and re-marketing of clients’ assets, asset appraisal services and maintenance management consulting. Mr. Medland and his practice group often act as the principal advisor to legal, airline, governmental and financial clients. Members of the practice also frequently provided expert witness testimony concerning both maintenance practices and tangible asset valuation of aircraft, facilities, ground equipment, and spare parts.

SH&E offers expertise covering all elements of the aviation industry. With a staff of over 100 specialists, throughout the world, the company provides consulting, strategic planning and technical services to airlines, airports, leasing companies, government agencies, airframe and engine manufacturing and financial institutions. Headquartered in New York, SH&E has offices in Boston, Washington, D.C. and London.
